Regeneration East Midlands
Regeneration East Midlands (REM) is the Regional Centre of Excellence (RCE) for sustainable communities in the East Midlands.
REM’s mission is to lead the way in developing skills, improving knowledge, sharing good practice and promoting innovation to improve all aspects of social and physical regeneration in the region. It works with the full diversity of communities and practitioners in the East Midlands. REM provide a range of services to support those working in any aspect of regeneration across the region.
REM identifies and promotes examples of innovation and good practice, provides opportunities for learning and skills development, brokers and supports partnerships and networks and provides expert advice and guidance.
REM was established in 2004 and includes the activities of;
Intelligence East Midlands (IEM) - Increasing importance is placed on making sure public sector policy and practice is based on sound evidence. IEM is the regional research observatory and provides high quality information and analysis. It ensures that good quality, accessible and relevant evidence on the East Midlands is available and used to inform decision-making. IEM facilitates research coordination and promotes good practice.
Association of Regional Observatories (ARO) - ARO represents the observatories and intelligence units in the English regions promoting the interests of the regional data community and facilitating the exchange of good practice for the benefit of members.
Design (Opun) - Opun is the architecture and built environment centre for the East Midlands. It works with decision makers, design, planning and regeneration professionals, communities and young people to improve the design of the built environment in the region. It offer a range of services that includes training, inspirational visits and tours, talks, public events and professional networking opportunities for people in the region who are interested in the design of new or regenerated buildings and places in the East Midlands. Opun also manages the East Midlands Design Review Panel.
Funding Access - The Funding Access section provides information and a wide range of training and development opportunities for fund managers, funding advisors and individuals and organisations seeking finance through grants, loans, contracts or trading. The East Midlands Funding Forum is an information, training and support network hosted within the Funding Access Section. It provides opportunities for those concerned with funding to meet, share ideas and discuss funding policy.
The Urban Partnership Group (UPG) - UPG brings together people from the public, private and voluntary sectors representing the six priority urban areas, smaller towns and designated growth points within the region to coordinate and support best practice in urban design.
The Sustainable Communities Excellence Network (SCEN) is an alliance of the eight English Regional Centres of Excellence for Sustainable Communities. It equips people, partnerships and leaders with the skills and knowledge to enable the practical delivery of regeneration and sustainable communities. Working from the Egan Review, each centre has been established to reflect the specific needs of its region, but all share the skills for regeneration/placeshaping/sustainable communities agenda. Together as the Excellence Network it shares best practice, information and ideas around this agenda, responding to national issues and collaborating across the country.
